A retired veteran and a Bronze Star recipient, Benzell’s military service profoundly shaped his outlook on life. During his time in combat, he witnessed firsthand the direct effects of helping others, which ignited a passion within him to make a difference in the lives of those around him. “If I can make a difference there, I can make a difference right here with my friends and families,” he often reflects, highlighting his commitment to bringing positive change to his hometown.
Benzell’s heart for service extends to children, teens, and young adults, as he provided aid to those in third-world countries during his military tenure. Now, he is dedicated to extending that same level of care and support to his local community, focusing on the unique needs of children in the foster care system.
As a single father raising five children, two of whom are now adults, Benzell’s life revolves around shared interests and family bonding. He enjoys engaging in activities such as wrestling, boating, and video games, creating lasting memories with his children. The family, which includes his beloved dog named Blue, cherishes their time together, reinforcing the importance of love and connection.
